"moscow is the city full of posh decorations. like a black hole, it’s gorging clouds of chaotic ideas. madly fast, it’s flooded with shallow hippies, jealous dealers and susceptible artists. everyone desires to have its own piece of luck, looking for the shortest way to some easy life. most of the nomads arrive from the capital suburbs and other big cities of immensely corrupted russia. everyone can tell a tale from outskirt. senseless rivalry and art falsity together make the special demands: your tale has to amaze, to inculcate; you must do something notable, freaky one and truthful. to dare to let it. there are no any rules. your voice has no matter, the only important is a sales skill. the local scene is tired of identical copying outside world’s standards. thereby the more your approach is unacceptable, the more valued is it. but the more it’s valued, the faster it will depreciate. the glossy shell with cheap content is the way to survive in such a tight plexus of cruel love, substance abuse and electronic music."

for our 10th release, we have compiled a double-vinyl package featuring various artists who hail from our hometown of toronto. with music from veteran and new names in equal measure, the collection is as diverse as the city’s influences. the common thread throughout — and the ethos of our label — is dance music with a future-facing bent.

short attention, a new mexican record label, appears for the first time in the vinyl world, with a solid release in charge of chicagodeep co-owner of perpetual rhythms a respected record label from chicago illinois, putting mexico in the radar of underground music.

melodic echoes drift through the stereo panorama like ice cubes orbiting through the hi-proof universe of a milky cocktail. between them stretches the intricate tick-tock of a liquified clockwork. markus homm and benny grauer sculpt their compelling grooves from the hard, repetitive substance of techno - but eventually their productions have a round, organic elegance that is reminiscent of mushrooms sprouting amidst the sparkling dew of a early morning meadow. the perfect sound for this listening experience comes from a 10” vinyl, whereas the digital counterpart of the ep comes with an exclusive third title.

eshu, the production collective and record label from nijmegen are back with their next offering. their 12th release is a various artists release that features blm, joburg and steven siwalette alongside label members ivano tetelepta and jocelyn abell. it comes on the heels of teteleptas absorbing dub techno album, senang, and is another high class offering. nijmegen based siwalette is first, previously contributed to the label as part of sys. his stragglers is a sparse but atmospheric track with industrial drones and slowly turning drums taking you through a desolate factory late at night. his second offering is alien encounter which is just as it sounds - a spooky, unsettling bit of cinematic sound design with menacing bass and icy pads all growing in loudness until they eventually consume your mind. lastly on the a-side, uk producer and fear of flying label boss blm lays down a skeletal groove thats embellished with beautiful, yawning synths. scattered little details and fx making this a cavernous piece that encourages your mind to wander and get lost. on the flip, jocelyn abell and ivano tetelepta cook up a heavyweight, mid tempo bit of dub techno with sharp hits and rolling kicks lulling you into a trance. last of all, the emerging j?burg picks up the pace with a perfectly chiselled bit of rock solid dub with looping drums and icy hi hats sinking you deep into its midst. this is an excellent ep that packs in a range of fascinating sounds for both the home and the club.

scottish producer & dj graeme clark aka the revenge releases his second album ‘when the thrill comes’ on his own roar groove imprint on 11th may 2018. ‘when the thrill comes’ is a demonstration of a producer achieving a point of maturity in their work, able to exercise a sense of restraint, to allow for their sound to have space. it is also the opportunity for the revenge to explore his own electronic music roots with a deeper pared-back sound more in touch with his earliest production experiences in house and techno.

persistence is back with the third release, a new split ep with manuel di martino and the italian duo asylum with remixes by johannes volk and jeff rushin. the a side contains the original track of manuel di martino called necessary phase, engaging groove and hypnotic synth are the right adjectives to describe this track. volk,s remix is inspired to the new york techno scene with stomp drum, raw groove and marked synth. side b open with substance by asylum, this track contains dark and closed sounds, a real trip into shadows. jeff rushin revisits this creating a very functional tool, and especially the right mix of dark and dancefloor s sounds.

grebenstein is a producer, dj and visual artist living in kassel, germany. after playing in several bands as a drummer and guitarist he made his solo-debut with a 4-track ep on the regis helmed label downwards records in november 2014. the gloss 4 track ep for horo comes after his downwards records follow up strong, proud, stupid, & superior with seefried was released in october 2016. title track gloss centres on percussive crescendos and pensive guitar layers, while self and its version stretch this effect out into a grinding, slow motion introspection. loss closes the ep with serrated drum machine blasts punctuating feedback contortions. the tension throughout the ep is palpable, with the shaping of the tension providing the substance of his signature style. non club tracks for open minded clubs.

highly limited 10- dubplates. following on from medium’s hugely successful 6th chapter in our project mohawk series, we waste no time gearing up for number 7, and make no mistake, it’s one of the biggest. for the next instalment, we handed the creative reigns to kaset. already treasured as one of our brightest talents, he showcased his early abilities in the edm.com premiered ‘contour’ from our musical currency volume 3 compilation, but that alone was the briefest insight into what would follow. more a mini album than an ep, kaset presents seven tracks of what we feel is his finest music to date. each track stands up to objective scrutiny in its own right, but together they form a body of work that few can deny is seriously on point. this is an ep for the heads, the only punches it pulls are bass laden ones to the solar plexus. those out looking for the freshest of deep beats, it’s time to load up, you’ve just found them!

2015 saw datassette in generous form, the original offal brought 100 tracks of alleged offcuts. while a rare few actually live up to this self-deprecation, it couldnt be a more misleading title. now, selected offal has been boiled down to a gravy-like substance for a vinyl release by the nice folks at shipwrec. after discussions with the artist, and suggestions from fans, seventeen prime cuts have been selected for the vinyl edition of offal, alongside a few brand new previously unheard nuggets and alternative versions. expect a buffet of delights. smooth electronica, abrasive funk, out-there acid experimentation, chip tune chicanery and everything in between from this chameleon of machine music.

after mike gervais’ strident work on sym017, ben sims’ symbolism imprint returns with spanish newcomer jlg’s four track ‘convolution’ ep. originally coming to sims’ attention via the demo section of his ‘run it red’ radio show/podcast, javier lg has previously released for dynamic reflection and substance but it’s the quality of his unreleased material that secured his place on symbolism. characterised by intricate and interwoven melodic rhythms, some at the forefront and some almost there, jlg’s debut for the label is an infectious and consummate affair.

downfall theory embarks on a new chapter as it hosts a full release from a producer other than its owner, sanys. myztical isn’t exactly a newcomer though, and the ukrainian producer has already two releases to his credit on nicz records. given the title of his debut on downfall theory, it is no surprise to learn that myztical is using it as a means to question reality. inspired by the science fiction writer philip k dick and decades of electronic music, he certainly succeeds on venturing into uncharted territories on the title track. muffled, repetitive vocal samples, an atonal rhythm and relentless, slightly distorted kicks show that quite often, simplicity is the most potent ingredient. on “faith of our fathers”, myztical disappears farther down the wormhole. splintered rhythms, deranged howls and a deranged filter push his vision for broken beat techno into the abyss. “substance d” sees the ukrainian hotshot return to a more linear approach, pounding kicks underpin ghostly shrieks before a breakdown sees the track descend into grimy, woody mcbride-style acid. the accompanying vocal sample, the embodiment of a bad trip, only serves to accentuate the track’s darkly hallucinogenic qualities. finally, there’s “shifted realities” - it revisits the jagged filters of “faith of our fathers”, but does so against the backdrop of a pounding industrial kick and a grungy, low-slung rhythm.

after 2 revered releases since the turn of the year, weekend circuit return, welcoming alfredo mazzilli for his first ep on the imprint. versatile in sound and challenging in his approach, alfredos invisible entity ep masterfully pushes ambitious ideas with great vigor to an international audience ever more ready to listen. with artists such as donato dozzy, aphex twin, sandwell district, dino sabatini and substance making up a strong part of his most notable influencers, alfredo favours the ambient & deep depths of the dark side of techno. enigmatic and unrestricted, side a starts with alfredo s original invisible entity. a steadily unfolding juggernaut, the emerging energy soon engulfs the entirety of the track, percussian transcending the gloaming synth sound throughout. zadig s beckoning bass and kick drum driven remix will see sonic nods across the club with this four-on-the-floor gristle. statiform region is techno s answer to a cinematic interlude. a testament to alfredos lilting synth ability. no way out kicks off the b side, with a algorithmic tinkering of sonic vs low hits and stabs. rounding up, echologist does what echologist does best a scattershot of intertwined and precarious techno sound, spliced with industrialised power
